Equinor eyes forest carbon credits facilitated by Norway’s rainforest scheme

News February 02, 2023 / By: Ann Danaiya Usher

The Norwegian Climate Ministry has used aid financing to build up a new architecture for the certification and sale of tropical forest carbon credits and says the oil and gas sector can contribute to preventing climate change by buying these credits. The Norwegian petroleum giant Equinor has signed a Letter of Intent for this purpose. WWF Norway warns of “greenwashing” if oil companies invest in forest carbon sinks instead of reducing emissions from their portfolio.
