Donors interfere in impeachment process in Malawi

The donor community in Malawi has in an open letter warned the opposition against moving forward in a hasty impeachment process against President Bingu wa Mutharika. They charge that Malawian MPs seem to have their minds focused on constitutional procedures, while almost half of population suffers from a grave food crisis.

Wangari Maathai considers ‘liaison’ role in de Soto commission

DT has learned that the Kenyan Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Maathai has accepted in principle to be associated with the High-Level Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor. Maathai is reportedly in close dialogue with the secretariat for the commission. She has indicated that she wants to have a special role as “liaison officer" with civil society.
