EU commission slams new Danish asylum law

News May 28, 2021 / By: Bjørn H Amland

The Danish parliament has passed a law that allows Denmark to export its asylum obligations to an African country. The idea that refugees coming into Denmark should be sent to a third country has been embraced by right-wing parties in neighbouring Nordic countries. The new law is criticised by UNHCR and the EU, and the governments of Sweden, Finland and Norway reject outright the notion of exporting asylum seekers.
