Sida chair’s blunt message to Swedish NGOs: compete for funds abroad

As Chair of Sida’s Board, Gunilla Carlsson has overseen the tumultuous transformation of Sida’s civil society funding, one of the “highest priorities” in the Swedish government’s on-going reform of aid policy. In an in-depth interview with Development Today, she says Swedish organisations are small in a global context because they have been too fixated on Sida money, and she calls for more international competition among CSOs.
