Forest carbon deal delayed. Costa Rica calls for changes in Norwegian-funded certification system

News December 05, 2024 / By: Ann Danaiya Usher

Four years ago, Norway promised to pay Costa Rica USD 10 million for forest carbon credits issued by the Norwegian-financed carbon certifier ART, but the crediting process has dragged on. Government officials in Costa Rica are frustrated by the slow pace and have criticised ART and its auditor Aster Global for the way indigenous communities’ involvement has been handled.
