Norway makes record rainforest payments to Brazil and Indonesia

News December 13, 2024 / By: Ann Danaiya Usher

Norway has approved a total of NOK 1.86 billion in payments for forest carbon to Brazil and Indonesia this year. The money rewards the two tropical forest giants for reducing emissions caused by deforestation and is the highest annual allocation from Norway’s result-based forest carbon scheme. For Brazil, the funds recognise a 30 per cent drop in forest loss over the past year. Indonesia’s payment is for results that occurred several years ago.
