Indigenous groups say their demands are ignored as donor-backed LEAF moves closer to a first forest carbon credit sale

Costa Rica has signed a landmark agreement for the sale of jurisdictional carbon credits to multinational companies in the LEAF forest financing coalition, backed by Norway, the UK, and the US. Central American indigenous leaders say the mechanism for validating the credits “does not guarantee” their rights. So far, they say, their critique of the mechanism, mainly funded by Norway, has fallen on deaf ears.
