Sida positive to Tanzania biofuel project, but keeps paper trail secret

News May 15, 2011

Sida is interested in providing a guarantee for a biofuel project in Bagamoyo, Tanzania. In 2009, the agency turned down a request to support the project - owned at the time by the Swedish firm SEKAB - due mainly to environmental concerns.

This time, the aid agency is more positive. Jan Esseen at Sida describes the project as “much more well defined”.

But, flying in the face of the new Open Aid policy, Sida refuses to release any details about what is being planned.
