Nordic aid budget round-up

Historic cuts in Sweden, Norwegian aid could sink to lowest level since 2008

News May 13, 2022 / By: Bjørn H Amland

Sweden, Norway, and Denmark are tapping USD 1.6 billion from their aid budgets to fund domestic costs related to Ukrainian refugees. Sweden makes the deepest cut with NGO support slashed by one-third. Oil-rich Norway also makes cuts, its aid level sinking to 0.89% of GNI, the lowest level since 2008. Finland is not using aid to finance Ukrainian refugee costs at home.
