Famine in Yemen looms as donors fall short and food prices soar in wake of Ukraine war

A pledging meeting for Yemen hosted by the UN, Sweden, and Switzerland ended with a record funding gap of USD 3 billion and major Arab donors made no financial commitments. Almost one-third of the wheat consumed in Yemen comes from Ukraine and Russia. Rising food prices triggered by the war in Europe threaten to deepen the country’s hunger crisis, UN officials say.
