Rwanda deal fires up debate over Danish plan to export asylum seekers to Africa

A new Danish-Rwandan pact on asylum efforts could be a steppingstone for outsourcing Denmark’s asylum obligations to Rwanda in exchange for aid. The Danish government desperately needs to land such a deal to fulfill an election promise at home, giving Rwanda a strong hand in the negotiations. The UN Refugee Agency warns that Rwanda does not have the capacity to receive more asylum seekers.
