PM frontrunner wants to wing-clip Norway’s peace engagement

August 08, 2025 / By: Bjørn H Amland

The populist right-wing head of the Progress Party Sylvi Listhaug, a PM candidate in next month’s election, aims to curb Norway’s engagement with actors like the Taliban, Iran, and Hamas. Maintaining such ties has for decades been a major asset in Norwegian foreign policy, applauded by multiple US presidents. The Americans should “find someone else” to do it, Listhaug told foreign journalists in Oslo this week.
