Gavi’s dwindling path to USD 9 billion, by the numbers

News March 30, 2025 / By: Ann Danaiya Usher

Three governments and the Gates Foundation account for 65 per cent of the USD 30 billion provided to the vaccine alliance Gavi since it was launched in 2000. As Gavi gears up to raise USD 9 billion at its upcoming replenishment, two of these countries – the US and the UK – are cutting their support. Even if the third, Norway, increases its pledge it can hardly close the gap. Still, Gavi has a financial resource that no other global health agency has: billions of dollars left over from the covid pandemic.
