Clash over gender equality initiated by ‘far-right’ rattles Finland’s foreign policy consensus

A decision by Finnish Development Minister Ville Tavio of the Finns Party not to join a Western alliance on gender equality  in Ukraine led to a political storm in Finland this fall. Tavio received a very public scolding from President Alexander Stubb and was the target of a no-confidence vote. The row provides a hint of what allies the incoming Trump administration might find in Europe as it seeks to upend the global sexual and reproductive health agenda.
