UNFPA braces for Trump II, scant hope for increased European funding this time

News November 19, 2024 / By: Ann Danaiya Usher

Europe - led by Nordic donors - increased support for the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) by 20 per cent to compensate for cuts in US funding for sexual and reproductive health during the first Trump administration. Few believe this will happen again during Trump II.

According to UNFPA, mobile clinics and critical services like maternal healthcare, family planning, and gender-based violence response will be disupted by foreseen US cuts in funding. Affected countries including Bangladesh (photo), Chad, Haiti, Madagascar, Nigeria, Sudan, Ukraine, Syria, and Yemen.   (Photo by UNFPA / Farjana Sultana)
