Self-imposed restrictions handcuff Norway’s global investments in renewable energy

Compared with its growing fossil fuel fortune, Norway’s investments in renewable energy in the Global South are microscopic. The country’s trillion-dollar Oil Fund is barred from such ventures and aid-financed green projects in developing countries are viewed as an expense, rather than a way of diversifying the oil fortune and even making profit. Tiny adjustments in these “irrational” rules could free up billions of dollars for wind and solar projects in emerging economies, but no such changes are in sight. [Updated]
