Gavi’s new CEO asks donors for USD 9 billion, promises to ‘democratise’ organisational culture

News June 21, 2024 / By: Ann Danaiya User

Sania Nishtar, the former Pakistani senator who took the helm of the Gavi vaccine alliance two months ago, is asking donors to contribute a record USD 9 billion for the coming five-year period. In a message to the Gavi Board, she signals a new focus on transparency at the Geneva-based agency. Meanwhile, board documents confirm Development Today’s previous estimates that leftover COVAX funds in Gavi amount to around USD 4 billion.
