New control mechanisms unlock donor funding for UNRWA

New control mechanisms put in place by the UN Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA and an interim report from the independent UN Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) have convinced some donors - the European Commission, Canada, Australia, and Sweden - to resume funding of the agency as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens. The preliminary findings of the OIOS investigation do not indicate system failures in UNRWA, a Sida official says.
