Interview

Anders Nordström calls for fewer global health agencies and a bigger role for African actors

News April 03, 2024 / By: Ann Danaiya Usher

A key lesson of the COVID pandemic is that the global health architecture needs to be modernised and decentralised, says Sweden’s former Global Health Ambassador Anders Nordström. In a far-ranging interview with Development Today, he warns against “cementing” the power of Geneva-based global health institutions. He says African actors need to play a bigger role and the time is ripe to start “merging and collapsing” agencies, starting with UNAIDS.
