Moment of truth for new OECD rules on aid reporting of private sector investments

Officials in donor capitals are busy finalising their 2023 aid tallies for the OECD. These will offer the first hints as to how the controversial new rules on integrating private sector instruments (PSI) into aid will work in practice and whether they will inflate aid. Donor practice varies dramatically. In 2022, one in six dollars reported as PSI-related aid came from Nordic countries. The United States meanwhile reported zero private sector investments as aid and will continue to do so.
