CIVICUS: only 2% of all people in the world live in ‘open’ societies

A tiny proportion of the world’s population – including the five Nordic countries - live in “open” societies, according to a report by Johannesburg-based CIVICUS, presented today at Norad’s annual conference in Oslo. Almost one-third of all people live in “closed” societies where civic space is extremely restricted.
