Sida tests out how to break Western-dominated mould in humanitarian funding

Donor action on localisation, a process aimed at breaking the monopoly of Western NGOs and agencies over humanitarian funds, moved at a snail’s pace for years, but things are slowly changing. Denmark is a frontrunner in setting requirements for funds passed on to local partners by Danish humanitarian NGOs. Sida will this year pilot direct funding to Southern-based humanitarian organisations, in a bid to catch up on the localisation agenda.
