Gavi donors to decide on fate of billions in unspent COVID dollars

One year ago, the vaccine alliance Gavi mobilised USD 4.8 billion for vaccines in the final fund-raising push of the pandemic. This absorbed most of the donor funds available to battle COVID-19 at the time, despite warnings that a more holistic approach was needed. Today, more than half of this money remains unspent, and donors are about to decide what to do with it. One option being considered is to set it aside in preparation for the next pandemic.
