Sweden fights EU move to let aid pay for military activities

News December 15, 2016

The European Commission wants to use development aid to fund military activities, but has met fierce opposition from Sweden's Development and Climate Minister Isabella Lövin. The EC’s proposal contradicts an agreement of OECD members from earlier this year that explicitly prohibits the use of aid for such purposes. “The EU cannot come a few months later and change it,” she says.
