Ethiopia’s hydro ambitions leave Norwegian aid project in shambles

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia surprised the world in late March when he launched an enormous new hydropower project, the Renaissance Dam.

Norway, which had been financing studies of two dams upstream on the Blue Nile, was caught off guard. One of the projects will be flooded by the Renaissance Dam.
