GEF chief criticises narrow climate focus of forest aid

When Norway made its historic announcement in 2007 to commit up to NOK 3 billion annually to forest climate aid, the Global Environment Facility - up till then the largest multilateral financer of forest projects - was passed over.

During a recent visit to Oslo, the GEF chief made a thinly-veiled criticism of the Norwegian approach to forest aid, which tends to emphasise the role of forests as carbon sinks.
