Voluntary guidelines fail to hinder impacts of biofuel

The World Bank report on the rising global interest in buying, selling and leasing large tracts of farmland for food and fuel production proposes a voluntary “code of conduct”. The case of SEKAB’s biofuel project in Africa shows that such a code can do little to mitigate impacts on the ground, Kjell Havnevik writes.
