OECD figures for 2005: War on terror cuts into global aid pie

Official development assistance rose by 31.4 per cent last year to a record level of USD 106.5 billion. But there is little cause for celebration. Mostly, this reflects rich countries’ writing off bad debt, and drawing the cost on the aid budget. The US-led war on terror is also making deep cuts into the aid pie, according to figures from OECD/DAC.
