Feeding fields

Most donor support for conserving crop diversity is concentrated in gene banks. Bell Batta Torheim argues that while gene banks provide back-up storage for seeds, only on-farm conservation guarantees their survival. She argues for more funding to go to farmers who maintain this genetic diversity through use.
