Sweden increases aid to Afghanistan

Sweden will gradually reduce its military presence in Afghanistan, while civilian long-term bilateral aid will increase from the current level of SEK 520 million to SEK 620 million annually in 2014.

Support to Northern Afghanistan will increase. Asssitance to civil society and anti-corruption work will be strenghtened. 

Sweden provides humanitarian aid, which comes from other budget lines and amounted to SEK 180 million this year. Support is also provided through the United Nations and the Swedish Afghanistan Committee. Total Swedish aid to Afghanistan amounted to SEK 900 million this year.
