Solheim wants Norfund out of tax havens

 
Development Minister Erik Solheim wants the aid-financed investment fund Norfund to stop making investments in tax havens like Mauritius, Cayman Islands and Panama. Norfund has been asked to review how it can pull out or relocate its 24 current investments from six offshore financial centres.

More Swedish aid follows soldiers in Afghanistan

 
The Swedish government announced earlier this month to step up both aid and military efforts in Afghanistan. Sweden plans to more than double its aid efforts in the North of the country, where it has its military presence.

Norfund, SN Power launch new hydro company

 
Norfund has agreed with SN Power to commit USD 700 million (NOK 4.9b) in equity for a new hydropower investment company targeting Africa and Central America. The commitment is part of a deal where Norfund sells a 10 per cent stake in SN Power to Statkraft for NOK 1.1 billion.

Väyrynen paves way for Finnish forestry aid expansion

 
Since the Minister for Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen took office, forestry programmes are being establishing or extended in several countries, including Nepal and Indonesia. Technical assistance contracts in the forestry field worth over EUR 50 million will be announced in the coming year.
