Jannik Lindbæk and the origins of the IFC ombudsman

A decade ago, Jannik Lindbæk of Norway, then IFC Executive Vice President, played a decisive role in creating the ombudsman mechanism of the IFC, the so-called Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO).

The IFC was at the time embroiled in a conflict with NGOs over the impacts of hydropower projects on Chile’s Biobío river.
